Breaking Olds: Carriers Don’t Protect Against SIM-Swap Attacks

 An alarming test carried out by Princeton shows that the five largest US carriers fail to properly protect their customers against so-called SIM-swap attacks.

This isn’t really alarming unless you haven’t been paying any attention to technology — we’ve been aware of this flaw for years — but it is still a big problem. Lovejoy’s shoddy, clickbait journalism doesn’t detract from the importance of this issue.

The bottom line is that the carriers need to do a better job of protecting their customers. In the mean time, make sure your account is as secure as possible: change your account PIN, update your security questions, change your password, etc.
